Lakeside Park: taken by Mitch Winton

Nestled in the downtown core of Nelson, BC, Mistiso’s Place is the perfect spot to immerse yourself in this vibrant community. As the snow levels creep down the mountains, locals and tourists alike begin to anticipate the abundance of fun things to do when winter arrives. There is truly something here for everyone: families, couples and singles!

Nelson has been a ski town since the 70s when friends decided to take risks and open up Whitewater Ski Resort. Since those humble beginnings, this grassroots hill has gained a world-renowned name for a true “steep and deep” ski/snowboard experience. With the addition of the new Raven Chair this year, the expanded terrain has something for everyone. And remember, there are complimentary mountain tours offered daily if you want to explore the resort.

Downhill is not your style? Nelson Nordic Ski Club offers classic and skate-skiing along the myriad of breathtaking trails just minutes from Nelson. Whether you’re a novice, an expert,  or somewhere in between, the options are for one and all.

Do you need to rest those legs after a day on the slopes? A leisurely and breathtaking drive along the north shore of Kootenay Lake will bring you to Ainsworth Hot Springs. These hot springs boast a large heated pool, a hot tub set against a large cave that you can explore and a cold plunge pool to get that blood flowing, all while gazing at the expanse of the lake below.

If you prefer to take it easy, this little town has oodles of unique shops to browse. Wandering Baker Street is an experience in itself. Exploring the nooks and crannies of back allies may just surprise you, too, with an array of hidden gems. After all that shopping and exploring, you’re likely working up an appetite for a quick coffee and a bite or a full world-class meal of whatever you desire.

Evenings can be spent at a local hockey game if the Nelson Leafs are in town! Our locally-owned Nelson Civic Theatre brings in the latest flicks if you want to kick back with some popcorn and watch a movie. Culture abounds in our little haven in the Capitol Theatre. You can watch anything from ballet, plays, and interactive theatre in a Victorian setting: this experience is like no other.

Indulging yourself while on a holiday is the ultimate gift you can enjoy. This town has an abundance of spas, RMTs, salons and yoga studios.

Nelson has a vibrant and diverse history. This mountain town exists on the traditional land of the Sinixt and Ktunaxa First Nations. We acknowledge that we reside on their unceded territory and honour their ancestral home. The Nelson Museum, Archives and Gallery is a beautiful place to browse, learn and immerse yourself in the days of yore.
